A Message from Pastor George Fry
Psalm 119:105 ESV
By now you know how I feel about the importance of reading your Bible daily. Daily Bible reading brings comfort, direction, conviction, understanding, hope and peace. The Bible is the source of truth and reveals God to us. Often through reading the Scriptures, God no only speaks through the words we are reading, but also, He speaks to our soul as you meditate on His Word.
There are many daily devotions that you could use to guide you in your daily readings. One of my favorite daily devotion books is Oswald Chamber’s My Utmost for His Highest. There are many devotions to choose from, some for men, women, teens and youth, and for married couples.
There are also podcast that you can listen to for your daily Scripture readings (hearing). Reflecting God (https://reflectinggod.com/) is a podcast provided the Church of the Nazarene.
Another help with daily Bible reading is “Read the Bible in a Year,” https://www.christianity.com/bible/year/, by Christianity.com. This guide gives you the option to read the Bible in order (Genesis to Revelation); chronologically; or a portion of both the Old and New Testament each day.
Two final thoughts First, the quality of our daily reading is more important than quantity. I know of some folks who read the same book of the Bible several times throughout the same year. Second, let your children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren see you read the Bible. This will show them the importance of God’s word.
In the next letter (if I’m still blessed to be at Denton) I will share some Bible study tools that you can use. For now, enjoy God’s word as you experience His grace and glory.
